Valentines Day: Then and Now

I promised that I would post the articles that I have worked so hard on in here. Be warned that I will post the all the articles that I have written in here. ;) The previous one was the first week. THIS is for the second week of February.

Read on:

All through the year we get to celebrate different kinds of occasions and different kinds of holidays. Just  a month ago, we welcome a new year. The year of the water horse, but, what about this month? What do we celebrate?
All through out the globe, aside from Christmas and New Year, most people would definitely anticipate this time of the month. Be it young or old, single or in a relationship, married and even if their status is complicated. We can never forget the month of  February ---the love month.  But, do you ever wonder where was it originated? and why we celebrate Valentines Day?
Let's go down to history as we broaden our knowledge about its origins.
As a matter of fact, Valentines was never meant to be a celebration of love and for couples but for an entirely different reason.
Fact: The 14th of February was observed to commemorate its patron saint---Saint Valentines.
Question: Who is Saint Valentines?
There are several stories behind the feast of various Christian named Valentines, this is one of them.  In the past, the Christian church named a lot of early Christian martyrs Valentines or Valentinus. One of the martyred Christian priest was named Valentine of Rome. He was martyred about AD 496 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. The church honored many Valentines on the 14th of February and he is one them
Legend has it that Saint Valentine was a priest in the 3rd or 4th century under the rule of Roman Emperor Claudius II.  According to many, the Emperor was impressed with Valentine and had a discussion with him. He persuaded Saint Valentine to convert himself from Christianity into Roman paganism in order to save his life, but Saint Valentine refused. Instead of him being converted, he tried to convert the emperor into Christianity instead. Thus, leading to his execution. However, it was reported that before he was executed, he performed a miracle by healing his jailer's daughter--Julia.
Another legend says, the night before his execution, an imprisoned Saint Valentine of Rome have written the first "valentine card" that was addressed to his jailer's daughter (Julia) who often visited him during  his confinement. He signed the card "Your Valentine". This said expression was later used in modern Valentine letters.
Another thought to ponder, another knowledge was being added. Now we know that we not only celebrate this day for romance, we also celebrate it to honor Saint Valentines cause it weren't for him we wouldn't be able to have another special day to celebrate.
Question:What is Valentines Day in modern times?
Answer: Valentines Day: A Day for Romance
As the years progresses, so as the ways on how we celebrate Valentines. No matter how old a tradition may be, new things will still be added and we continue to practice it out of habit.  Valentines is a special day in which couples get to together. Like,  go on an adventure and having a romantic dinner date.
Let us also not forget the tokens that we usually give on this special day such roses, stuffed toys, balloons, chocolates and the infamous valentine card. But, the most precious gift a person can give to his love one is his time. 'Tis the day in which it's just you and him and no one else. A reason why many people grab this opportunity to be with the one they love. True, you get to spend each of your time with them. True, you can express your love anywhere and any time that you want.
But why is this day different from any other day?
Because it is not just you who celebrates this special occasion, but, you celebrate it with the rest of people around the world. Spreading and expressing their love to one another in ways we never see.
Although Valentines is a day intentionally to be celebrated with your significant half and since nothing in this world is constant but change ----so as tradition. Now, we can celebrate it with the people we love: friends, family and all of those other people who are close to our hearts.
I believed that celebrating Valentines is  a day in which you express your love to the people around you in a special way. Be it be for the love of family, friendship, sisterhood, brotherhood etc.. as long as you get to express your love and not a minute late.
Let me express my love to you as I end this with a heartfelt thanks and...

Love by Definition

I often wondered what love truly is. What makes it so important? What makes it so special?
I can recall the time back when I was still a student. Our professor told us during one of her lectures that in Ancient Greece, the Greeks have four distinct words for love-- agape, eros, philia and storge. I remember our professor saying that the Greeks use these kind of language depending on to whom it was expressed and how it is used by its definition.
Agape is love in a "spiritual" way. It is a true unconditional love that goes deeper regardless of the circumstances. It is selfless, a kind of love that gives and expects nothing in return.
Eros, a love that is  more "physical".  Meaning it is base purely on our emotions. Like being romantic to the person and the desire to love someone. However, eros doesn't need to be sexual in nature for this could be applied when you are dating someone and even when you are already married.
Philia which means "mental" love. It is a give and take kind of love more commonly seen in the form of friendship.
And the last one,
Is storge, stands for "affection". Like the affection that the parents give to their children. Storge is almost exclusively used in relationships within the family only.
These are the four distinctions of love that we are already aware of. Though, I have studied and read about it I, myself, can't still figure out what love is and because of that  I read hundreds of books and watched thousands of movies that signifies all about love. As what I have witnessed and observed I realized, there are different kinds of love and it can be expressed in different forms. You may not noticed it but it's true.
For example, can you still remember the time when you were little, you once had a childish crush on your classmate or with your friend? That innocent display of love is what we call puppy love.
The way our parents cared and protected us is not a form of them being too strict, but rather, It is them showing us how they love us.
Another one is patriotism. Loving one's country.
How about loving someone without asking nothing in return? That's love too you being self-less. Not to mention, the unrequited love we had felt for a couple of years to a certain someone. But most of all, let's not forget the feeling the way we accept and cherish ourselves. That is to...
There are so many other kinds of love that we have already seen and experienced, these are just some of them. As we grow old so does the definition of love evolves. Truth be told, we do understand these terms and grasp its concept and yet, most of us still think of what love means. What it means to us.
What it means to me?
A question that left an impression. A question in which I have yet to answer.
A book I had read once quoted " Love makes us human."
Having these simple statement linger in my mind I began to come up with an answer to all of those questions.
Indeed, love truly does makes us human because when we love we do things that we are not used to do. We experience a lot of emotions that were buried way down deep. When we love we became the imperfect person who loves perfectly.
Why is it important?
Love  is important because it is both our strength and our weakness.  We tend to make a lot of mistakes when we fall in love but never it is the reason to give up.  We must remember; mistakes makes us human, failure makes us stronger, hope keeps us going and love makes us alive. All the more reason for us to love since it is the feeling that most of us wants to experience and getting hurt is part of that package deal.
Why is it special?
To love and be loved is the greatest gift one can have and receive. Loving someone is never an obligation nor it is a responsibility. It is never the duty of  the other person to love you back. To love is a choice and not forced upon.
Love is infinite. We can make it as much as we want. It is never selfish and conceited. Love is patient. Love is unconditional and it's self-less. It has no boundaries and knows no limits.
 Distance is never an issue.
Cause when we love nothing else matters.
Cause when we love, our world revolves only to that person.
Cause when we love, we can see a whole different world. A fantasy in our own reality.
Because love is a magical feeling like no other and for that I can definitely say...
How about you?
What's your definition of love?

This is an entry for an article writing contest. Sorry if I post it a little bit delayed.

Spontaneity is the Name!

This happens when you thought you're just meeting your best friend for a nice hangout-- a chit-chat-kind-of-thing. And that "nice hangout" you thought of turns out to be an unprepared shoot you never think would happen. Considering the circumstances that you are not prepared for the said impromptu shoot, in the photographer's perspective it wasn't a bother ---at all.

Chibi Inuyasha

Hey guys! sorry for not updating any new post these past few days yours truly, have been quiet lazy and not so up for blogging. I was also busy getting some ideas for an upcoming blog. (Yes, thinking can be difficult. Imagine that) let alone "honing" my drawing skills again. Not that easy I tell you. I've been rusty for a couple of years! not counting the random drawings I tend to do from time to time.
